The butterfly effect, Quakers, …………..

Filed under: article — aurojit @ 2:36 am

This entry is a work of fate, the result of a collision between multiple complex events which wouldn’t have happened if fate, chance, luck or whatever other name you give it wouldn’t have been at work, because in the absence of this collision this entry would have been nothing more than a blocked writers blocked mumblings, which I am sure no one wants to go over again….. After yesterdays strangely ugly day, especially with all the confusion in the college front, me had in a state of uncertainty shot of mails to quite a few of ze colleges I had applied to, which is y earlier today I came online to check on responses, only to find little or nothing of use (except for one little mail from queen’s and two from my friend)...... Now for some strange reason I suddnly remembered zat a year or so back the Lord of the Rings soundtrack site used to offer zese strange little user pictures and umm I kindda went there to check zem out, only to run into a little advertising banner which among other things asked u to download four free essays on Chaos Theory….. Now about four years ago Warner Bros. released a little picture whose story was dreamed by two brothers, and umm despite not being that well advertised (at least not in India), the movie ended up becoming ze ultimate expression of cyber punk, philosophy, hinduism, and a different world view, and Warner bros and the brothers went on to make two more movies in ze same series. I loved The Matrix (the original one) though I never really did like either of Reloaded and Revolutions, ‘coz while ze Matrix tried to portray itself as being something beyond an action flick, and tried to break out of the general mindless drone of its genre, Revolutions and Reloaded harped back to ze same genre with little of the original movies philosophy and style visible…... Which is y I have to checkout a movie which I haven’t even heard about but still a movie which advertises itself by asking me to download essays, on nothing less than Chaos theory. Now Chaos theory in itself dictates zat complicated systems cannot be considered to be simple amalgamations of simpler systems, becoz as complexity increases something other than the simple systems come in, instead of being an additive product of multiple simple things a mob behaves differently as compared to all its simpler influence, becoz in a mob, chaos steps in, at least thats what the official definition says…. Now New Line Cinema which is also a part of Time Warner Corporation is supposed to be releasing The Butterfly Effect a movie on some guy playing with the past, creating chaos and dictating how the chaos theory in itself works, at least thats what the part following each of these essays say, and though I haven’t seen any of its trailers, or even really paid much attention to what’s indicated about ze storyline online, ze one thing I have done is to read ze essays, and well they’re worth reading ‘coz they talk of things in the same philosophical manner in which ze original matrix used to talk abt ze world, zey talk abt how chaos theory actually dictates everything, abt how chaos in itself is entropy misunderstood, abt how we live in patterns we don’t understand, and also abt the exact opposites of all these stuff ‘coz after all these r essays on philosophy and well philosophy is different for each individual….... But I for one believe in ze invisible patter thingee after all no less than three events collided to show me what ze butterfly effect was, no less that seven (me writing zis entry, someone reading zis blog, telling u abt it, and u coming to read it) collided to show u what it was, and umm by the time it gets to the nth person ze number of events colliding wud have increased exponentially, or so ze panda feels…... But then all these events colliding also result in what is often referred to as buzz marketing, making a product successful becoz users love it enuf to go out and tell everyone abt it, thus creating a buzz in the market, with a lot of ppl following ze crowd to get to ze product, much like bees following each other to get to nectar, hmm but we do know that bees follow patterns, so maybe so do we, maybe all ze randomness in ze universe, ze fuzzy noise caused by quantum effects, ze fuzzy noise caused becoz all of space is at atleast 3 Kelvin instead of 0K, is a pattern….... Hmm either way chaos theory interests me and so does ze damn, so if someone’s kind enuf to release it in India, I’ll pay for ze ticket and watch it, ‘coz maybe ze fifth collision wud be interesting to look at, ‘coz in science ppl tell u abt 99% failure rates but u still do everything u can ‘coz ze 1% cud be pretty beautiful…........

My trip to Bharatpur has been undeffered so I’d be out tomorrow, and day after, subsequently after which normal posting wud resume for some time….... I spent most of today choosing what I do and do not want to carry, final choices r a F3, a FM2, a 300mm lens, a 2x converter, and of course the 80mm I had written abt earlier, which is coooool….. Though ze reason for carrying ze F3 is not my father, nor the 80mm its just that I don’t have a decent tele since my 300 causes insane amounts of optical distortion, since it ain’t ED or nething, and well courtesy a sliding zoom/focusing ring its pretty hard to use, and can’t be tripod mounted, which is y I kindda took one of my dads 300s (he has three so it ain’t as if my taking one affects him all zat much)...........

Keeping in line with event collisions, another set of event collisions has taught me all abt Quaker’s and the Religious society of friends…. I originally ran into these terms while applying to Swarth which pretty much indicates zat its supported by ze Quakers and ze society of friends though it doesn’t give ne clues abt what these r and is religiously pretty liberal with all sorts of religions and things listed in its viewbook so I was kindda confused abt what these thingees were, besides I kindda liked Swarth….. Well one of ze guys whose been regularly commenting on my second H2G2 entry turns out to be Quaker (and a sufi also though that part wasn’t something which really concerned me since I already know what sufism is), and well his info page had this nice link to an H2G2 piece on Quaker’s, and well I kindda read up on it…. Turns out these guys r or atleast originally were christians who refused to fight wars, ppl who say zat God wudnt want them to fight battles in his name since doing so kills other ppl who r also created by God, and well rather more interestingly these guys have no real written rules, which is y every group worships and acts as its members fell zey shud, and that makes these guys pretty adaptable, which is perhaps also y ze guy who convenes Friends meeting in India is a hindu, and which is y ze guy from H2G2 was also a sufi (which happens to be very loosely based on islam), and while I have never been much of a religion or mysticism aficionado someone shud really tell all ze damn religious grps and zealots abt these guys…..... Hmm interesting knowing abt these guys…..

Ze Panda
off to pack bags….......
