Providence Diaries Vol. 1
Note: This entry doesn’t deal with today, it is important for people to understand that most things are influenced by the past, and this is the past.
I haven’t posted in a while, we ignore that, for ignore that we must. I could post about many things, like my exams, the week of stress, and other such unhappy things, but it would do neither of us any good, for we all know what that is like. Then there are other things, so let us concentrate on other things in essence. This entry does not stretch far back into the future, it stretches to some extent, but that extent is relatively small, and you don’t even have to go through time dilation to note that the period of time I plan on describing is relatively short, or so I hope, on the other hand if you do go through time dilation, some of this can seem to occur in a tiny minute burst and can seem somewhat weird, but weirdness as I was discussing with a friend yesterday, can be good, and hence it is not entirely an unpleasant feeling.
They say cities have a character, well they lie, hmm, no scratch that out, technically they semi-lie, since not only cities, but roads and dorms and buildings and such things have character. So yes yesterday was move-out day, and people were (presumably) moving out, often in a great hurry, seeing as you had to be out by noon, else “bad things”™ would happen, and evil would take over the world, and the like… So people hurried, and oh yes hurry they did, there were people with huge vans (and at least 1 guy with a truck, the big kind), and there were different styles of packing, putting stuff in garbage bags and throwing them into cars and vans and stuff, putting things in neat piles and throwing them into their mode of transport. Uniformly though, the activities involved getting rid of large amounts of waste, putting large amounts of things into fairly large cars, and then driving off to fairly far off places, for if they were closer, the entire moveout thing would have started sooner. This is sort of interesting, people coming in from almost everywhere on the East Coast, like I had a friend from Virginia who’s mom drove out to Providence, sure they have good cars, and good roads, but it’s still awfully far away, I doubt the building of a set of really cool expressways back home, would get people to drive out to the ends of the country, but then again the cars are different. While we are still on cars, this is fascinating, but what we refer to as big cars back home, seem awfully small for people in the US, kind of strange, even though as one of my friends put it while we were walking on, there are a helluva lot of SUVs in this country.
So yes, you have people going crazy, packing up cars and leaving, hmm the leaving is kind of bad, like I have spent 9 months with some of these people, and now we all leave, go away for like 3 months, and almost everyone I know agrees it is long. But we are not here to contemplate the leaving, I am no longer really sure what we are trying to contemplate here, but I assume this is not a part of it, well my assumptions are based on my thinking, and hence must be semi correct, but then again I am not completely sure about my thinking at this point of time, and a part of my thinking says I must express disappointment at the fact that most people I know have disappeared, gone off to different parts of the world (it would have been this country if it wasn’t for two or three notable exceptions, and the fact that I am going to fly back home at some point in time, and other causes which are much too strange to elaborate). But nevertheless most people were leaving in the craziness, and a part of the craziness allowed me to take a car ride (my second while in the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations), to this storage depot/company/whatever (I am not really sure what those are called), which as I had heard, and can now confirm, since seeing, and by extension sensing is believing, is really really nice. On a side note, I am also the proud possessor of my first piece of furniture ever, and more notably the first tangible, untransportable piece of evidence screaming I am here, I now own a futon mostly for use as a couch in the house, which was bought for cheap, and is a part of my contribution to the house, :)... But yes regardless, I was in a Toyota Camry going to the storage location, which I hadn’t really seen, or known much about, but seeing as the person taking me there, herself knew not the lot number, I don’t feel that bad. It’s air conditioned, beautiful, and better than I expected, and unlike my initial fears, climate controlled is not necessarily a reference to the fact that mild rain does not affect it, but refers to the true nature of climate controlled facilities as used for everything. So yes I have storage for cheap (umm technically as of today I also have a safe deposit box, but we don’t worry about that at this point in time).
So yes, noon came, with the sun high up in the sky (umm wait, the sun was kind of AWOL, but I am sure if it hadn’t been AWOL it would have been somewhere high up in the sky, this being summer and all), and people left, and suddenly the craziness ceased, it hath not ceased, but there was an illusion of calm, something similar to the eye of a storm. By about one, as people had left, a storm of dumpster divers emerged, people who would dive into the giant charity dumps which dotted the campus searching for items of use in there, and some who would walk through dorms, whose doors had been popped open, and steal food, any and all good food in refrigerators. They weren’t student, and while they weren’t evil, troublesome some of them were, for while I have nothing against dumpster divers, who after all were finding large quantities of the “good stuff”™, and such, I do have things against those who take away the four bars of sharp cheddar which I had used a friends near infinite supply of flex points on, and they took it, even though it was marked out with the words “Staying for commencement week, do not take”. Now I know sharp cheddar is good, hell if it wasn’t I wouldn’t have bought all that cheddar and crackers, but for heavens sake, you shouldn’t steal someone’s cheese, it might be important. Hmm, OK have to agree this is the first time food has gotten stolen, and seeing the huge amounts of food you can usually see at most places, food really isn’t something people like stealing, so it probably was just a case of someone deciding I had left, and taking said pieces of cheddar to eat, because after all as we all know cheddar is good.
I digress, but I have decided those gamish ads they place on top of Xangas are evil, they are evil because I love playing with them, but I don’t like the popups they open if you win, now I know they are childish games, easy to win and devoid of any serious challenges, or requirements of skill, but I like them nevertheless, and hence find them evil, go figure.
So yes the days since, hmm Brown is deserted, deceptively so, since recent examination of the areas around has shown a large number of people I actually know, who are staying on for a while, it is interesting, social networks seem to be connected by groups of people, and occurrences of events, in the absence of which, I at least seem to be partially if not completely disconnected from them. I did have a rather long, and interesting discussion with a friend yesterday, and did watch Garden State, but those are minor occurrences. Contrary to what I promised myself, I have still not watched Episode 3, or H2G2 for that matter, and no matter how bad they are, it is essential I remedy this situation at some point of time in the near future. I wonder what crappy movie I will get to watch on my flights back, oh wait I am flying BA, in which a friend tells me I should be able to chose A/V as opposed to pure audio channels, so perhaps there is hope yet, and I shall not watch crappy movies, which is not entirely a good thing, seeing as on my flight over I watched Wimbeldon, a movie so utterly crappy that I wouldn’t watch it otherwise, but strangely OK for aircrafts. Oh well we shall see, many hours of flying lie in the days ahead, and we shall get to them eventually. I however am flying on an aircraft run by Delta which doesn’t have Delta wings, I am in fact not sure any of Delta’s current fleet has delta wings, sort of sad, I want to fly on Deltas which have delta, and it is plain wrong to not be doing that, same as it is plain wrong to have PanAm be a local airliner operating mostly in Maine. Oh well we shalth see, we are still in recent history, and distant futures, so I still have kept my timeline promises, and Providence is still here, and the dumpster divers are gone, and other such things…
