I don’t like any of the Harry Potter movies, though I must say that the 3rd and 4th were significant improvements over the 1st and 2nd.

One major thing I noticed they left out was the whole revelation of Hagrid’s parentage. I mean, they did have him talking to Madame Maxime about it. If time was such an issue, they could have just acted like she didn’t get all offended by it and not let Rita Skeeter listen in on it. I guess they just plan on revealing Hagrid’s giant heritage when they bring in Grawp?

Obviously, they have to leave lots of things out for a movie. This one was already more than 2.5 hours long. But I’ve always maintained that even with time limits, certain things could be improved (though, again, 3rd and 4th movies way better that first 2). And omg! They totally left out the house-elves! No Winky! No Dobby! No SPEW or HELF!!!! That was not only important plotwise, but house-elves represent an important thematic point that JKR makes throughout the series about general racism or in the case of Hermione, an overzealousness on the part of the supposedly unhappy still against their actual wishes (Hermione still makes the mistake of thinking she knows what is right for a group she is not a part of even though she wants to “liberate” them). And Barty Jr. was supposedly not already dead because Dumbledore was like “send an owl to Azkaban, I think they’ll find they have a prisoner missing.” They took a much nicer picture of Barty Sr. too. Made it seem as though he hated to condemn his son. That was another important point by JKR – that sometimes those on the side of “good” are not necessarily less ruthless, more kind, or more “good” than those on the side of “evil.” Barty Sr. was an example of this blindness even in the name of good. I suppose they couldn’t have had Barty Jr. dead though if they couldn’t have a Winky to take care of him and stuff. Who will we know well enough to contrast with Kreacher? Winky is your average house elf and Dobby is a major weirdo and Kreacher…well he’s just senile. Without Winky, we don’t have the basis of house elf personality.

Anyway, I think I’m writing too much, so I’m cutting myself off now.
